Where losers of mind fail to tread
The potentiality of our mind is immeasurable.
Within it lies the seed of success and failure, happiness
and sorrow, hope and despair. It’s a very powerful force which can enslave us
or empower us. With the mindset of a visionary, Laungi Bhuiyan, an uneducated, poor farmer of
Kothiwala Village in Lathua area of Gaya in Bihar has proved its infinite
power.
“Once a goal is set deep in our mind, no force can
deter it.”
Single-handedly, he dug a canal of 3 km length to carry water from the hills to the fields of his village for irrigation purposes. Challenges were many, rough paths, unfavourable climatic conditions, but these did not prevent him from his vision of providing rainwater to his village.
When
asked about his mission, he said, “the major occupation of people in Gaya is
farming and animal husbandry. I was much disturbed seeing the rainwater
flowing towards rivers, during rainy seasons, from the nearby hills.” Then he
thought to execute his plan of digging the canal which takes the water to the
pond in his village. "For the last 30 years, I would go to the nearby jungle
to tend my cattle and dig out the canal. No one joined me in this endeavour.
Villagers are going to cities to earn a livelihood but I decided to stay back. Many a time villagers and even family has tried to stop him”, he said.
Bhuiyan had only one wish, a tractor for his agricultural
purpose, hearing this, Anand Mahindra, chairman of Mahindra Group
readily fulfilled his everlasting desire. Anand Mahindra thinks “Laungi Bhuiyan’s canal is no less
impressive than monuments like Taj Mahal, and indeed it’s an honour to Mahindra group
to give him their tractor, for his relentless, untiring hard work. Now Bhuiyan in Bihar’s “Canal man”,
humbled before his priceless gift, is happy as his
own people admitted of how his years-long toiling will benefit to
irrigate the fields, large number of animals and people. Many will be benefiting
from the water especially during the rainy season.
The Canal the monument built by Bhuiyan now live along with the people of Gaya and people across
India, as a symbol of persistent hard work, dedication, toiling for 30 years,
singlehandedly, to fulfil his vision, with an optimistic view, that anything is
possible if you put your heart and soul into it.
“Ultimate success
surely depends upon the resolute determination of the mind.”
